You absolute legends. The task you set us this year was off the scale. We couldn’t have anticipated the amount of Christmas cards that would come through the local independent businesses we located our Local Postal Boxes in. We don’t count them up until the end of the month, but we knew very early on it was going to break last years benchmark. All delivered on time with a few exceptions. The most undelivered items were in the category of people posting cards to addresses outside of the Wirral. We simply can’t deliver these items as they are too far away. Then we have around half a dozen cards which are partially or badly addressed. No house number, named houses but with no postcode or house numbers that don’t exist in that road. We manage to locate so many but sometimes it’s an impossible task without the assistance of a private investigator.
Early indications show that we have saved Wirral residents a combined total of around £500-£600 in postal costs. Not only that all of you that posted have contributed to helping raise between £250-£300 for Wirral charity “Charlottes Brightside”. Supporting local businesses doesn’t necessarily mean “more expensive”. We have been saving Wirral businesses thousands of pounds every year on postal costs and now we can do it for residents too.
In a blog early on in December I promised to reveal something you may not know about Local Postal Solutions. Apart from around 80 cards which were posted by family to help out on the final days before Christmas. Every single process from collecting the cards, stamping the cards, sorting the cards and then delivering the cards to every corner of the Wirral by bicycle is done by one person. Imagine what we can achieve with 2 or 3 employees. That’s what 2025 is all about growing and expanding. We did have 8 hours of assistance with our parcel deliveries from 2 amazing volunteers to help me focus on mail delivery.
We couldn’t achieve any of this without the amazing contribution of our Local postal box hosts at The Celebration Station, The Art of Flowers, The Chocolate Cellar, The Hairdressers and JK cards and gifts. We also couldn’t achieve this without you. The contribution of everyone who posted is massive. A lot of you would have been posting for the first time, somewhat blindly and hopeful that this is actually a real service. I hope we have repaid the faith that you put in our hands. And please remember that the boxes are their for you to send any Wirral mail all year round.
Not just a postman.
