Who are we?

Local Postal Solutions is a Wirral-based mail courier service. We deliver mail from a number of Wirral businesses and schools to private addresses across the borough.

How we handle data?

As a mail courier service, we are in physical possession of the mail that comes from our clients. However, all staff employed within our service receive full training regarding the laws around handling mail. Specifically, this means that all staff are clear that they must not open any item that is addressed to another person, therefore giving them no access any personal data or other content.

At Local Postal Solutions, all mail is scanned in person, there is no automatic scanning machinery or computer hardware involved. In addition, we do not use tracking information or devices on any of the mail or parcels we handle nor in the vehicles we use to carry out deliveries.

​

 

Consequently, we do not process personal data, even though we do physically hold the personal data contained in a letter sent using our services. Processing data, including holding it, implies a degree of access to or ability to control or use the data itself, not just physical possession of the letters or parcels that contain the data. The term ‘holding’, as used in the definition of ‘processing’, implies considerably more than simply being in possession of a physical object that contains personal data.

The above means that at Local Postal Solutions, we are neither a data controller nor a data processor for the clients that use our services, nor the customers of those clients, because:

· We act solely as a conduit between the sender of the mail and its recipient;

· We do not exercise any control over the purpose for which the personal data in the items of mail entrusted to us is used; and

· We have no control over the content of the personal data entrusted to us.

In accordance with ICO regulations, the fact that we are not a data processor means that there is no need for our clients to put a data controller-data processor contract in place.

​

 

Clients that use Local Postal Solutions for their mail delivery remain the party responsible for the data they choose to send through our service. Any data that could be considered as highly sensitive and/or that is likely to cause financial or emotional harm if lost, should always be sent using a recorded delivery courier service.
